urban style of dress

The origins of this word are largely unknown, but is has a similar meaning through South America. It generally refers to someone obnoxious or annoying who is disloyal or inept. It recently regained popularity in Argentina thanks to the Wachiturros, a cumbia boy-band from the "villas". In an televised interview explaining their name, they responded it comes from "gaucho" which means "wild" and "turro" which is a urban style of dress. "Turro" for them means someone who uses Adidas track suits or other athletic brands. This provoked mockery from mainstream media outlets who only knew "turro" for its negative definition.
